Generating Knowledge is the key to track Health-related SDGs in Nepal

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which comprise of 17 goals and 169 targets have become a global developmental agenda. A team lead by Meghnath Dhimal and Mandira Dhimal tracks goal 3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages) has a central focus on health, which is underpinned by 13 different targets. They provide an about how health-related SDGs and their targets and indicators may be tracked in the national context of Nepal. Citing the examples of ‘brain drain’, low budget allocation to health research and lack of transdisciplinary research culture in Nepal, they call for the higher allocation of research budget from the Government of Nepal and highlight the importance of networking and collaboration with national and international research institutions and universities. They conclude that global knowledge sharing, capacity building and innovation are the keys to track health-related SDGs in Nepal.
