Dovan Rai is a researcher, writer, programmer and designer. She did Bachelors in Electronics Engineering from Pulchowk Campus, Masters in Sociology from Patan Campus and PhD from the Computer Science Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), USA with Fulbright Science and Technology PhD Scholarship. Her dissertation titled ‘Modes and Mechanisms of Game-like Interventions in Intelligent Tutoring Systems’ explored ways we can integrate game elements in Intelligent Tutoring Systems to maximize both rich learning experience and robust learning gains. Her research is at the intersection of Educational Psychology, Game Design, and Artificial Intelligence. She designed and developed three game-like learning environments and used graphical modeling approaches to understand the mechanisms in which game-like interventions impacted student’s interaction, emotions, perception, and learning.
She is passionate about making quality education accessible and worked at OLE Nepal, where she designed educational software for public schools in Nepal. She worked as Scientist and Education Coordinator at NAAMII, a research institute dedicated to doing AI research and education in Nepal. She is co-founder of Sujhaab Chautaari, a career counseling platform for the youth of Nepal and co-creator of Covid Support Nepal , a community-owned multidisciplinary platform to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in Nepal by making relevant information accessible.
