Prience shares diverse experience in research focusing on development, economics, and environmental governance. His initial research reports aimed to address regulatory provisions for fostering private sector development and economic growth in Nepal. As the country transitioned to federalism, Prience conducted research on devolved development, specifically examining fiscal decentralization procedures in public debt management and the role of subnational governments in promoting regional infrastructure development through Public-Private Partnerships.

His interests later expanded to encompass natural resource governance, basin-scale governance, and water markets. At the Global Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (GIIS), Prience continues his dedication to natural resource governance. His current research explores how various ecological structures, including rangelands, river basins, forests, and watersheds, can be effectively governed through regional and highly decentralized approaches.

Prience holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Franklin University, Ohio, USA, and a Master of Science in Project Management from Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Prience enjoys engaging in table tennis matches, particularly playing 21 points in the best of 3 sets. He also finds joy in spending quality time with his family.
