GIIS director Dr. Uttam Babu Shrestha, along with his colleague Dr. Anindita Bhadra from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata, India, wrote an Editorial in the prestigious journal Science. The editorial entitled ‘Science in South Asia’ was published in the 28 June 2019 issue. In the article, both authors emphasized the importance of science diplomacy in South Asia, one of the challenging regions in the world. They have provided an account of opportunities of collaboration among South Asian nations in the fields of Science, Technology and Innovation while highlighting the barriers of collaboration. At the end of the article, the authors provided a wish list to enhance scientific collaboration in this region.

Both Dr. Shrestha and Dr. Bhadra co-lead a working group called ‘Science Diplomacy in South Asia’ at the Global Young Academy.
