Dr. Suman Manandhar is both a scientist and an engineer by academic training. He has completed his Doctor in Engineering (Dr. Eng) in Civil and Structural Engineering from Kyushu University, Japan specializing in Geotechnical Engineering and has a Master’s degree in Geology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He completed his postdoctoral training from Kyushu University and worked as a researcher lecturer and a visiting associate professor at Saga University, Japan. He also worked as a lecturer at the Central Department of Geology, Tribhuvan University and Khwopa Engineering College, Purbanchal University, Nepal. His wide-ranging research interest covers from the specific fields of engineering geology, soil mechanics and foundation analyses, effects of soil structure interaction of infrastructures and soil dynamics, ground improvement techniques using soil-cement mixtures, use of waste quarry by-products as a recycled subgrade material using soil-lime mixtures to improve the bearing capacity, geotechnical exploration of rock and soil using field techniques such as rotary and auger drilling, stability analysis of rock and soil slopes, liquefaction analysis, improve the embankment slopes using the simplest compaction technologies, landslides, disaster management and risk reduction for sustainability development, geo-disasters, geo-environment, and sediment-related disasters.

Dr. Manandhar has received awards and accolades including the prestigious Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarships (MEXT), Mahendra Vidya Bhusan Ka and Kha from the government of Nepal. Dr. Manandhar has published more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and more than 40 International Conference Proceedings. He serves as the Secretary-General cum Treasures of International Association of Lowland Technology (IALT) and has served as Chief Guest Editor, Guest Editor and Associate Editor of Lowland Technology International Journal. He belongs to one of the Yogic Flyer of the deep meditation practitioner and teaches yoga, meditation and stress-management techniques using meditation and yoga methods.
