Nishan Baral
Research Associate Natural Resources And The Environment
Nishan is a research associate at GIIS and is a wildlife researcher specializing in ornithology, holding a Master of Science in Forestry from Tribhuwan University, with a focus on advancing conservation through research. His academic and research interests center on species distribution modeling, human-wildlife conflict analysis, and integrating ecological and geospatial data to address pressing conservation challenges. He has practical experience with tools such as ArcGIS and R and applies modeling approaches to gain deeper insights into species-environment relationships. He is especially interested in utilizing environmental, physiographic, and anthropogenic datasets to explore habitat preferences and spatial patterns of wildlife habitat preferences, with a particular emphasis on conservation applications. Nishan believes that effective conservation depends on a clear understanding of ecological systems through research, allowing for well-informed and targeted interventions and protection efforts.
Beyond his academic work, he is deeply fascinated by birds and dedicates much of his free time to observing and studying them. He also enjoys wildlife photography, hiking, and reading literature and those activities that deepen his connection to the natural world and inspire his ongoing commitment to its conservation.
